NEGOTIATION
&
mEDIATION

The Negotiation and Mediation wing of the Clineme provides a platform for participants to develop and showcase their negotiation and mediation skills in a simulated environment. Two mediators and four negotiators enter a designated space. The negotiators are divided into two teams of two, each representing a party in a fictional dispute. One team represents the requesting party, while the other represents the responding party. This format applies specifically to the Preliminary Rounds. The two mediators act as neutral facilitators, guiding the conversation between the negotiating teams. Their role is to ensure clear communication and a productive exchange of ideas. The negotiator teams engage in discussions aimed at settling the dispute. They present their arguments, explore solutions, and strive to reach a mutually agreeable outcome. In the advanced stages, the focus shifts to absolute scores. Each negotiation becomes a win or loss situation for the negotiating teams, determined by a scoring system that evaluates their effectiveness. This setup helps the participants to equip skills that enable them to navigate disagreements effectively, to approach problems creatively and collaboratively and to analyse situations from different perspectives and develop solutions that work for everyone involved.

CLIENT
COUNSELLING

This segment of CLINEME throws participants into the heart of the attorney-client relationship. Imagine this: A potential client walks in with a legal issue. Your task, as the attorney, is to gather crucial information while building trust and keeping them at ease. The success of this exercise hinges on the participant’s ability to ask the right questions. The Participants need to use targeted inquiries that are both comprehensive and accurate. This ensures them to uncover the core of the client’s problem without overwhelming them with legalese or irrelevant details. While gathering information is key, creating a welcoming and supportive environment is equally important. Imagine a client who is already stressed about their legal troubles. An attorney’s role here is to be hospitable and understanding, putting them at ease so they feel comfortable sharing sensitive details. A good attorney doesn’t just identify the problem; they offer solutions. During this simulation, the participants will be evaluated on their ability to suggest appropriate remedies based on the information gathered. It’s about demonstrating one’s legal knowledge and strategic thinking, all while keeping the client’s best interests in mind. The learning doesn’t stop after the client interaction. Assessors will then delve deeper, questioning participants on their strategies and any shortcomings they identified. This is a chance to reflect on one’s thought process during the interview, validate the assessors’ observations, and gain valuable insights to improve attorney skills for future encounters. By participating in this segment, the participants gain a deeper understanding of the intricacies of client communication, legal problem-solving, and the importance of building trust in the attorney-client relationship.
